Big Ideas Wales visit for Y10 and 11 #entrepeneurs #startup #businessowners

Coleg y Cymoedd open evening 7th November

Y10 become fire fighters for the day! Thanks to Dallaglio Rugby Works also.

Big Ideas Wales

Big Ideas Wales is a Welsh Government project with the aim to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs in Wales, aged 25 and under,  to develop entrepreneurial skills, whatever their career pathway.

They help young people build knowledge of business; with tools, information and help for those who want to start a business.

Ty Gwyn had a visit from one of their employers, Jane, who gave our young people some inspiration about what they might want to do in the future. They spoke about their own experiences and what it was like starting their own business.

Further opportunities and resources will be provided by Big Idea Wales to those young people who wish to start their own business, e.g. painting and decorating and hairdressing, via the Youth Entrepreneurship Strategy Action Plan.

Tillbury Douglas work readiness Y10 workshop

Thanks to Michelle from Careers Wales and Kelly from Tilbury Douglas for visiting us and sharing the job opportunities in their company, so many to consider!

L in Y10 is now inspired to consider an apprenticeship because of the college and training combination. Great news!

Visit to Sony Technology UK - time to code! Lots of job and career development opportunities, sadly no PS5s!

Coleg Y Cymoedd taster days for Y10, some great work here, hair and beauty, construction and plumbing and then some delicious catering efforts!

Y9 visit to the Transport for Wales Taffs Well depot, experiencing the world of work!

Firefighter for a Day photos! Thanks to our Dallaglio Sports Mentors too.

Such a busy summer term!

Y11 have now left us and everyone has a secure destination for September! Good luck to you all, we will miss you and know you will succeed on your chosen pathway.

Y10 have spent the “day as a firefighter” at Merthyr Fire Station with our Dallaglio Sports Mentors, definitely a career path to aspire to. Well done T, Mason, Harley and Ethan πŸ”₯

Y9 are off to the new metro depot with Transport for Wales at Taffs Well. This brand new link will showcase the future employment opportunities in this area and highlights the need to make these jobs accessible by local transport.

How to apply for transport for college September 2022

Pencoed College visit

Y11 had the opportunity to visit the campus at Pencoed College this week, between revision sessions, as they were interested in their animal courses. They have quite a few animals such as ferrets and Guinea pigs on campus and offer a range of animal care and husbandry courses.
There are high levels of learner support available and our Y11s are looking forward to their next steps in September 2022.

Carpe Diem!

Industry Expert Visit

Learners in Y10 and 11 today had the opportunity to meet and listen to a young chef Toby. He shared his journey to becoming a junior chef and then Chef de Partie at the Celtic Manor Resort.
Toby followed the apprenticeship route to become a chef,  which suits many learners who like to both learn and train on the job at the same time. He explained the long hours and challenges as well as the opportunities and benefits of working in a commercial restaurant setting.
We are slightly biased as he is Mrs Cox-Wall’s son, Toby is a great advert for the apprenticeship route to success!

Y10 and 11 visit to FCC at the Hirwaun A465 project 🚧🚦

Virtual Careers Fair

We will be joining the virtual Careers Fair on 9th February and exploring the opportunities on offer- both jobs and apprenticeships for our Y11 learners. Exciting times ahead!

Check out the details and see the website for more details.

Y10 and 11 visit to Prince Charles Hospital

The learners studying Construction and the Built Environment level 1 and 2 vocational qualifications visited the construction site at the Prince of Wales Hospital, via the Open Doors project on 6th October 2021.

The visit was informative and very illuminating as to the careers available in this area of work, from the electricians and brickies to the person who checks the light bulbs on the helipad! πŸ’‘

Thank you to Sam and Michelle from Careers Wales and the Open Doors project.
Our learners enjoyed the visit and behaved impeccably.
Well done!
