Food and clothing in school

Food and drinks

All food is provided to all learners in school without charge, this includes toast and cereal bars for breakfast, break time snacks and hot/cold lunch options. All hot drinks are de-caffeinated and squash is low or no sugar. Learners are encouraged to drink water during the day and re-usable bottles are provided (these are thoroughly washed each day).

We do not permit junk food in school, energy or fizzy drinks. Occasional treats are provided in school, with parent/carer permission.

Vapes and e-cigarettes are prohibited and are a serious health risk, parents/carers will be contacted in these cases.

Clothing

We do not have a specific uniform at Ty Gwyn Education Centre, please ensure clothing is appropriate for school attendance and not revealing or displaying inappropriate logos or slogans.

We have a selection of donated new and nearly new clothing in school, should any pupil need this. Please speak to Mr Petts if we can help in this way.

Period products are available, including holiday time supplies, free of charge in school. Ask any member of staff for help with this.

If a learner brings a bag to school, they may be asked to show the contents to a member of staff to ensure nothing harmful is contained. This can include the occasional use of a no touch metal detector wand.

Howells Sports in Tonypandy offer Ty Gwyn tee shirts, polo shirts and hoodies for sale by order. Please go to www.howellssports.co.uk/ or ring 01443 433335
