Councillor Rhys Lewis, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cabinet Member for Education and Youth Participation, said: “Congratulations to all associated with Ty Gwyn Education Centre on attaining this Silver Award from UNICEF.

“As a champion of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child, UNICEF advocates for governments to protect and promote the rights of every child, believing that children’s rights should never be compromised by their circumstances.

“Rhondda Cynon Taf Council supports that view and children’s rights are already central to our ethos and are embedded in everything we do to provide a quality, tailored education for all our pupils whilst promoting their holistic development and well-being and meeting their additional needs.”

  • Last day of term Beach Clean and goodbye Mr Groves!

    Thu 21 Jul 2022

A great last day for all our learners who attended, we visited Aberavon Beach which we are blessed to have on our doorstep, a little slice of coastal heaven. As members of the Marine Conservation Society, we were pleased to complete the "2 minute beach clean" and in just that time removed 4 bags of plastic waste from the beach. Games were also played, water paddled in and sand buried in, go to the gallery section for some fab photos, we left nothing but footsteps behind :)

Thanks to all our wonderful staff for making it a special last day for all our learners, have a good summer everyone.

We also say goodbye to Mr Gavin Groves, he has been a great addition to our staff team and will be missed by us all. We wish him every success and good luck in his new Senior Leadership post at Ferndale School.

    Wed 06 Jul 2022

Another award to add to our recent recognitions of the great progress we have made in Ty Gwyn.

    Why this is important…

Its a whole school commitment and conscious decision to ally ourselves to the principles and standards required in this award that has been evident continuously since we began our improvement journey. As a trauma informed provision, we strive to consistently provide the best levels of social, emotional and mental health support we can and will never waver in our determination to be a safe haven, place of kindness and dignity, compassion and learning.
