  • Welcome to a new school year! Some handy reminders for parents and carers, please read.

    Mon 13 Sep 2021 Mrs Cox-Wall

Welcome to the new school year!
We are pleased to be back and glad to see all learners, including several new, across all our year groups.
We’d like to remind parents and carers of the following:

    1. Face coverings should be worn on school transport and the contractor can refuse entry to the vehicle.

    2. Learners should attend every day, unless genuinely unwell. Absence for reasons like haircuts or shopping will not be authorised and cases of concern will be referred to the Attendance and Well-being Service. Please ring as soon as possible if your child is absent.

    3. Ty Gwyn is a no phone school. If your child brings a phone on the taxi it is to be handed in on entry. This is a decision around safeguarding and applies to everyone. You will be contacted if there is an issue re this and we request your full support.
    4. Smoking is not permitted on site, please do not supply smoking materials, you will be contacted if there is an issue.
    5. Coronavirus continues to be a serious concern. Social distancing, hand hygiene and careful observation of symptoms will reduce the spread. If your child has symptoms, keep them at home and notify school via phone as soon as possible. If you or another close contact have symptoms, please also keep your child home until you have been tested. Please advise school.

Lateral Flow Tests are available from school and are recommended for testing twice a week.
Thank you for your support across these key areas. When learners are supported and in an established routine they learn and progress.
Please contact school and/or Damien Petts (Family Engagement Officer) if you have any concerns.

  • Well done to our Dallaglio Rugby Works Champion Ryan

    Tue 29 Jun 2021

Today we celebrated some great news! Our Y11 learner Ryan has won the Champion’s award at the annual Dallaglio Rugby Works Foundation celebration and awards ceremony.
Ryan is a talented sports person, an excellent golfer, representing his age group for Wales and securing a scholarship for next year to the prestigious Hartpury College.
Ryan has also achieved a Sports Leaders qualification with the DRW mentors, a level 2 merit in WJEC Sports and Coaching and 9 other GCSE and equivalent qualifications. This includes Hospitality and Catering (level 2 merit) so we know he can look after himself when away at college with more than beans on toast!

Well done Ryan, Ty Gwyn is proud of you and your achievements. We wish you well!

  • TES Awards Finalists 2021

    Fri 25 Jun 2021

So, we are disappointed we didn’t win this prestigious National award, but very pleased to have been nominated as finalists in this category, particularly in our circumstances of a sustained improvement journey.
The mental health and well-being of all our learners is everyone’s business and it’s always our priority. We are so impressed to see the wider work by schools all over the UK in this category and we congratulate the winners Chortlon High School on their work, well deserved and well done.

  • Clean Air Day 2021

    Thu 17 Jun 2021 Mrs Cox-Wall

Today is Clean Air Day 2021

Today we have joined lots of other schools and organisations across RCT in activities for Clean Air Day! We have surveyed the trees in Aberdare Park and observed the lack of moss and lichen on the road side of the trunks and asked the children to suggest why that would be?

They also reflected on the quality of air in this area and the ways in which they could improve air quality by walking more and using less aerosol spray.

See the RCT website for more information:
