  • Summer Fete success!

    Thu 13 Jul 2023

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather to join us today for fun, games, hot dogs, strawberries and a visit from South Wales Fire Service!

Almost all the items for sale were made or grown by the children and everyone “operated” a stall or game.

We raised some money for the school fund also, which we can spend on enjoyable and enriching experiences next year - around £250! 🤩

The only thing that could have been better was the weather! See our picture gallery for more snaps!

  • Ty Gwyn Summer Fete

  • Estyn Thematic Review

    Fri 30 Jun 2023

Estyn the education inspectorate in Wales, visited Ty Gwyn earlier this year to explore the delivery of the new curriculum, the qualifications we offer and how we ensure equity of opportunity for our learners, compared to those in a mainstream school.

The detailed report refers to EOTAS and PRU provisions across Wales and the many positives for learners in these provisions.

There are sections which refer specifically to Ty Gwyn Education Centre (which includes learners in our group and individual tuition provisions) which reflect positively on the work of our staff and the progress of our learners:

  • Goodbye and Good luck to our Y11s

    Sat 24 Jun 2023

So this week the exams finished and we said goodbye to our Y11s!
When I joined Ty Gwyn in 2020, this group were just Y8 and very small and timid. Myself and the wider staff have watched them grow up, becoming mature and sensible young adults, competent and confident to make their own way in the world.
We have watched them overcome many challenges, including a pandemic which separated us all for long periods and brought unprecedented difficulties around learning.
The behaviour and attitudes we have seen recently, particularly during the exam period which is never easy, has shown us all how ready they are to take those next steps to success outside Ty Gwyn.

    Goodbye and good luck to:

Riley, Rubi, T, Ethan, Logun, Harley, Mason and Liam, you’ll be missed.

  • Empathy Day @ Ty Gwyn!

    Fri 09 Jun 2023

Ty Gwyn has recently started using the Empathy Lab Resources to develop our provision and these important learner skills effectively.
Today was Empathy Day and we all joined in in Form Family Time. We also shared this Empathy Short story in assembly and thought about Isla as if we had our empathy glasses on.

We look forward to our next activity - Social Action at our beach clean on 22nd June.

  • Ty Gwyn celebrates the coronation of Charles lll

    Fri 05 May 2023

We held a mini break time street party today to celebrate the coronation of Charles lll. Just a few terms ago we celebrated the Platinum Jubilee and then solemnly marked the passing of Elizabeth ll. History is written as we live and we are all part of that process.

Staff donated the refreshments and we enjoyed the street party, colouring, games and fun!
The coronation will be shown worldwide and Wales will be at the forefront with the Cross of Wales leading the procession and some Welsh music and songs featuring also.
Wales also features in the new King’s emblem. A new

era in the history of Great Britain.
See our picture gallery for some fun street party pics!

  • Size of Wales climate change charity visit

    Sat 29 Apr 2023

We were pleased to welcome Alicia from Size of Wales to school on Friday.

She told us how we, in far away Wales, can save tropical rainforests by our actions that can help preserve trees:
    1. eat less meat if you can (and even better if its organic) as a lot of de-forestation comes from the land being used for cattle grazing

    2. eat more greens and buy more locally produced food

    3. try to avoid foods that contain palm oil as this means more de-forestation, things like biscuits

    4. buy fair trade items like coffee, bananas and cacao

    5. reduce-reuse-recyle, you don't need new all the time!

We can all help and save an area the size of Wales each day!

  • Sports Development Leaders success for Y11

    Thu 20 Apr 2023

Very well done Rhys and Harley!

This qualification demonstrates a high standard of coaching ability and skill, developed over a year with our sports mentor partners at Dallaglio Rugby Works.
