  • Learning with Autism Secondary Schools Award

    Mon 06 Jun 2022

Ty Gwyn is pleased to announce that they have achieved this recognition from AutismWales.org having ensured that all staff, including ancillary and administrative staff, all learners and other members of the school community have completed the required learning and developed their knowledge and understanding of the complex neuro diversity in our school community! This has been used to develop our teaching, differentiation, learning and support for all our learners, on an individual and bespoke basis.

  • The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations

    Thu 26 May 2022

Today we said goodbye to our Year 11 learners who went out for a “leavers treat” and when they returned from their special event, they joined us to celebrate 75 years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth!
Our “street party” was an indoor event with the rain but that did not dampen spirits at all! We dined on pizza, trifle, jellies and cakes, followed by games and fun, including guess the royal baby from amongst the 25 staff baby pictures! There were some terrible haircuts and dodgy outfits there!

Please see the picture gallery for some snapshots of the day.

I am sure you are all looking forward to celebrating this historic moment in history  during half term at home and we hope you enjoy with friends and family.
    School returns on 6th June,

  • Rights Respecting Schools Silver Award

    Wed 18 May 2022

Ty Gwyn has today celebrated this major milestone in its improvement journey. The rights of children and young people are part of our structure and daily life, for both adults as duty bearers and learners as rights holders. Children are listened to, respected and consistently guided and encouraged to be the best they can be.

  • Welcome to the Fern Primary Federation!

    Thu 05 May 2022

We were pleased to welcome 5 staff to Ty Gwyn today, Vanessa, Katie, Mandy, Sue and Ashley from Craig Yr Hesg and Cefn Primary schools respectively. They were interested in the trauma informed provision and looking at elements of good practice.

The staff enjoyed a continental breakfast and talks from our head, new deputy and acting deputy and ALNCO. This was followed by classroom drop ins, looking at Learning Recovery and the Assessment Centre and then Q and A and a website tour!
It’s always lovely to have visitors and of course the pandemic has limited our opportunities to work with other colleagues and share good practice. We look forward to forging new partnerships and working together 🫱🏼‍🫲🏻

  • Attendance Note

    Fri 29 Apr 2022

The summer term has started and week 1 is complete.

We have had mixed attendance again and Year 11 particularly must attend daily, a day off here and there is going to negatively impact GCSE marks.
There are learners who may miss the grade that reflects their true ability by just a few marks because they’ve missed their revision session or a past paper practice.

You can help your child, what ever their year group, by ensuring:

    • your child goes to bed at a reasonable hour
    • turns off the phone or games console at this time
    • gets up in good time for transport
    • appointments are made outside school hours

Thankyou for your support in this and we look forward to continuing to work together.

  • Farewell to Ms Jones

    Sat 09 Apr 2022

We were sad to say goodbye to Ms Steph Jones today, one of our excellent teaching staff. Ms Jones was described by the Head as a creative, hard working, supportive teacher who had ensured her class of KS3 learners had flourished in every way since September.

Colleagues described a true friend, humorous and thoughtful, talented and caring colleague who they will miss.

We wish Ms Jones every success in her new post at ITEC and she will be sadly missed by both friends, colleagues and our learners.
    Pob Lwc!

  • New Curriculum for Wales workshop for parents

    Wed 06 Apr 2022

Great to welcome a small number of KS3 parents to school today for refreshments and to discuss the changes to the curriculum in September.
Ty Gwyn has always taught literacy, numeracy and digital skills within a thematic framework and this will continue with the added dimensions of:

    • the international perspective
    • careers and the world of work
    • the Welsh perspective
    • relationships and sexuality education

We are very excited to be moving forward and staff will be using future INSET days to ensure we meet all the requirements with an inclusive and engaging roadmap of topics and themes linked to our learners’ interest.
Thanks again to our parents and carers.
